Hello and welcome to the first day of 1st grade. We, Mrs. M. Coleman and Ms. T. Crump are looking forward to a fun-filled learning experience and hope you and your child are as well. We believe education is a very critical part of success. Along with that, we believe that all children can learn and succeed. With the right support and tools, we plan to help our students not only master this year’s content, but be prepared for next year as well. In order for this to happen, we encourage you to be as involved as you would like to be this year. If you have any concerns about your child or something that happened that day, feel free to contact me at anytime.
I can be contacted in several ways throughout the year. I can be reached via email at mcoleman222003@yahoo.com, or Sallie B. Howard 252-293-4150. My planning time is from 11:15-12:00, or 3:00-4:00 daily. This would be the best time for me to schedule a conference, as well as my best opportunity to return your call. Again, we are very excited and we are looking forward to a great school year.
Thank You,
Mrs. M. Coleman
Ms. T. Crump

Snacks: Normally, I don’t allow the students to bring snacks on a daily basis, but due to having lunch at 10:30 students may be hungry before the end of the day. I will discuss more details at a later time.
Homework: Your child will bring homework home daily in a two-pocket folder. Homework must be completed and signed by parent daily. Please make a point to check the folder for important information.
Behavior: With regard to behavior, your child will be expected to act in a manner that will ensure safety and consideration for the feelings of others. A weekly behavior report will be kept in the homework folder, and it will go home daily but needs to be signed and returned daily.
Grades: Sallie B. Howard is on a 9 week grading period which means that a report card will come home at the end of each grading period. Your child will also receive a mid-term progress report every mid-point of each grading period. We will have a parent night to discuss your child’s progress reports. I have included the grading scale that is being used here at Sallie B. Howard.
A= 93-100 B=83-92 C=73-82 D=69-72 F= Below 69
Absences: Please make sure that your child is attending school every day, and on time because instruction time is very important to the success of your child’s education.
Special Note: If you need to have a conference with me, my available time will be between 11:15-12:00, or 3:00-4:00 (evenings).
